THEY are the anonymous faces in films and TV shows who hope, in many cases, to one day step from the shadows and become household names. For most, that will never happen. But giving up the dream is hard to do. Such is the life of the actor-extra.

At the Maroochydore office of talent agency V Management yesterday, four Coast-based actors spoke of the excitement of working on the Steven Spielberg-produced time-travelling series Terra Nova.

All four – Andre LeRouge, Mathew Manwaring, Kyrra-Lee Dooley and Robbie Harrison – were extras in the debut US series shot in Brisbane and on the Gold Coast.

The series, in which humans living in 2149 travel back in time 85 million years to form the Terra Nova colony after all life on earth is threatened with extinction, has its two-hour premiere on Network Ten tonight. Mr Harrison of Noosa, who had the recurring non-speaking role as the butcher on Terra Nova, admitted that returning to his normal life after working on the series was tough.

“You are in a different world,” he said.

“You come off the set and you get back to reality, which is boring.”

Dubbed Jesus of Terra Nova by one of the directors of the series due to his appearance, Mr Harrison is still chasing that big break.

“That’s the ultimate goal, to be a successful actor,” he said.

“You never give up on that. That’s the secret.”

Mr LeRouge of Sippy Downs also had a recurring non-speaking role in the series, or core extra as it is known in the industry, works as a supply teacher while waiting for his time in the sun.

The 40-something actor loved the experience of being involved in the big-budget spectacular.

“It was fun to actually be back on set,” he said.

“I love that, particularly the atmosphere.”

Mr Manwaring of Coolum, another core extra on the show, said it was a privilege to be involved in Terra Nova.

Ms Dooley, 14, was an extra in only one episode. The Sippy Downs teenager is studying acting and said she learned a lot from the experience.

The V Management Team is very very excited to announce our move to a brand new home at the beautifully restored historic and heritage listed Limestore Building in Newstead. The feel of yesteryear emerging through modern touches, funky and inviting, makes our new home perfect for us and our most valued clients. Easy parking, easy access with bus or train makes the visit all the more enjoyable………..so no excuses for not making an appointment to come in for an update very soon.

Having said that, we are still waiting on some building works to isolate some offices which is quite meticulous given the heritage status of the building. We’re highly functional though, with appointments, bookings, screen tests and reviews as usual.

The new address is Limestore Building, Ground Floor 1/33 Longland Street, Newstead 4006 . We have a new phone number too….07 3216 1088, but don’t worry the old number still diverts…….

We can’t wait to entertain you in our new home………

Make an appointment & visit your agency every 3-4 months, irrespective of whether anything is happening. Developing a solid long-term relationship with your agent is arguably one of the single most important strategies for success in the film, TV and fashion industries, don’t underestimate it!!

2. Actor, Model, Commercial Face, Extra, Presenter and so on……you are your own business, your look/image, skills, individualism….protect and nuture it! It is valuable and your point of difference. Be conscious of what images or otherwise appear in social media which might devalue your potential to a client!

3. Keep your on-line listing (e-caster, AT2 or Showcast) up to date with your current look; contact details; jobs & courses, voluntary, paid or otherwise ….this is one of your key marketing tools!

4. Look for opportunities to develop, train and practice! Even the best have coaches and never stop developing themselves ……. Student films, theatre, short courses etc., whilst not guaranteeing success, will certainly improve your chances in a competitive market, as well as building confidence!

5. Attitude determines altitude and is the one thing no one but yourself controls unconditionally……..stay positive and never lose sight of your goal or dream.
