Extras in new TV series

October 3rd, 2011 by V Management

Our Extras appear in the new TV series TERRA NOVA

Terra_Nova_Extras

Kyrra-Lee Dooley with Matthew Manwaring (from left), Robbie Harrison and Andre LeRouge appear as extras.

THEY are the anonymous faces in films and TV shows who hope, in many cases, to one day step from the shadows and become household names. For most, that will never happen. But giving up the dream is hard to do. Such is the life of the actor-extra.

At the Maroochydore office of talent agency V Management yesterday, four Coast-based actors spoke of the excitement of working on the Steven Spielberg-produced time-travelling series Terra Nova.

All four – Andre LeRouge, Mathew Manwaring, Kyrra-Lee Dooley and Robbie Harrison – were extras in the debut US series shot in Brisbane and on the Gold Coast.

The series, in which humans living in 2149 travel back in time 85 million years to form the Terra Nova colony after all life on earth is threatened with extinction, has its two-hour premiere on Network Ten tonight. Mr Harrison of Noosa, who had the recurring non-speaking role as the butcher on Terra Nova, admitted that returning to his normal life after working on the series was tough.

“You are in a different world,” he said.

“You come off the set and you get back to reality, which is boring.”

Dubbed Jesus of Terra Nova by one of the directors of the series due to his appearance, Mr Harrison is still chasing that big break.

“That’s the ultimate goal, to be a successful actor,” he said.

“You never give up on that. That’s the secret.”

Mr LeRouge of Sippy Downs also had a recurring non-speaking role in the series, or core extra as it is known in the industry, works as a supply teacher while waiting for his time in the sun.

The 40-something actor loved the experience of being involved in the big-budget spectacular.

“It was fun to actually be back on set,” he said.

“I love that, particularly the atmosphere.”

Mr Manwaring of Coolum, another core extra on the show, said it was a privilege to be involved in Terra Nova.

Ms Dooley, 14, was an extra in only one episode. The Sippy Downs teenager is studying acting and said she learned a lot from the experience.

Brisbane Agency Moves!!

August 15th, 2011 by V Management

The V Management Team is very very excited to announce our move to a brand new home at the beautifully restored historic and heritage listed Limestore Building in Newstead.  The feel of yesteryear emerging through modern touches, funky and inviting, makes our new home perfect for us and our most valued clients.  Easy parking, easy access with bus or train makes the visit all the more enjoyable………..so no excuses for not making an appointment to come in for an update very soon.

Having said that, we are still waiting on some building works to isolate some offices which is quite meticulous given the heritage status of the building.  We’re highly functional though, with appointments, bookings, screen tests and reviews as usual.

The new address is Limestore Building, Ground Floor 1/33 Longland Street, Newstead 4006 .  We have a new phone number too….07 3216 1088, but don’t worry the old number still diverts…….

We can’t wait to entertain you in our new home………

Important Stuff

May 12th, 2011 by V Management

Important Stuff if you want to be a successful actor or model

1. Make an appointment & visit your agency every 3-4 months, irrespective of whether anything is happening.  Developing a solid long-term relationship with your agent is arguably one of the single most important strategies for success in the film, TV and fashion industries, don’t underestimate it!!

2. Actor, Model, Commercial Face, Extra, Presenter and so on……you are your own business, your look/image, skills, individualism….protect and nuture it!  It is valuable and your point of difference.  Be conscious of what images or otherwise appear in social media which might devalue your potential to a client!

3. Keep your on-line listing (e-caster, AT2 or Showcast) up to date with your current look; contact details; jobs & courses, voluntary, paid or otherwise ….this is one of your key marketing tools!

4. Look for opportunities to develop, train and practice!  Even the best have coaches and never stop developing themselves ……. Student films, theatre, short courses etc., whilst not guaranteeing success, will certainly improve your chances in a competitive market, as well as building confidence!

5. Attitude determines altitude and is the one thing no one but yourself controls unconditionally……..stay positive and never lose sight of your goal or dream.

Should I Let My Child

April 11th, 2011 by V Management

Should I Let My Child Be a Model?

Unfortunately a few agencies in our industry have created some bad press in the past in regard to child modelling, and it is understandable as a parent to have concerns whether it will be a good thing to let your son or daughter step into the sometimes challenging world of entertainment……but they may be very keen to have their chance and you probably don’t want to say no without having a good reason, so for your peace of mind here are some frank Pro’s and Con’s;

Pro’s –
• It can be great for a child’s confidence, poise, social skills and presentation, which are all vitally important life skills.
• The up-front costs are low (or should be with any reputable agency) so should you begin and they find that they don’t like it after all you will not be out of pocket, and the rates of pay for modeling or commercial work are reasonable if they secure work.
• It can be fun & is great work experience; if you and they relax and don’t take it too seriously auditions are great chances for your aspiring star to ham it up and enjoy the attention!

Cons-
• Auditions can be time consuming and require quite a bit of running around on your part
• While there is a lot of work on offer there is also a lot of competition, and some rejection is inevitable. This can often lead to tears temporary upset.
• Some of our young talent book regular work, some get occasional jobs, and some get none, be aware that if you are banking on this to pay their way through university there are no guarantees of success!

At V Management we have a specialised young talent division called Zoo Kidz which operates very successfully and a all of our kids totally love what they do…..we take our responsibility towards them very seriously, and recommend that if you are still unsure on whether the world of showbiz is appropriate for you and your little one, you can make a free appointment with us and we’ll be only too happy to discuss this with you further.

What Does a Talent Agency

April 8th, 2011 by V Management

What Does a Talent Agency Do For You?

In Australia a Talent Agent is employed by you on a commission basis (set by industry awards) to find quality work on your behalf in the area that you are seeking…… At V Management we receive many briefs every day from casting companies and producers looking for suitable people to fit their needs for extras, models, actors and performers thanks to our strong industry connections.

If you are a good fit for the description of what they are seeking then we will submit your resume on your behalf. From there you will hopefully be shortlisted for an audition, and if successful we will negotiate favourable rates of pay for you, and ensure that the terms and conditions of your employment contract are legally sound.

If your role turns out to be a longer term we ensure that your wages are paid every week, and liaise with your employer continually to keep you up to date……be aware that if you want to work as an actor or extra you need to be flexible according to the changing needs of the production, and the hours can be long. On the other hand, as long as you are on set you are being paid, regardless of whether you are doing anything or not.

Getting regular work in our industry can be challenging and daunting so it is important that you find an agency that is the right fit for you…… make sure that you find one who specialises in your particular area of interest, who cares about your success and is willing to work hard on your behalf, offers quality training to enable you to put your best foot forward, and has been established long enough to have an extensive network of connections to create a high demand for talent.

V Talent Agency and Model Management has been here for eighteen years and are growing stronger by the day because we have learn t what casting agents require and what our talent need to do to get quality, regular work……..our dedication and experience equals your continual success.
